Aloise, Slawson Named Teamsters International Vice Presidents

IMG_3269 (From teamster.org) General Executive Board Appoints Strong Union Leaders Following Recent Retirements

Today, Teamsters General President James P. Hoffa announced the appointment of Rome Aloise and Brad Slawson Sr. to vice presidents on the union’s General Executive Board. The union leaders were chosen by the General Executive Board following the recent retirement of vice presidents Chuck Mack and Cheryl Johnson.

Aloise, who will serve as a Western Region International Vice President, has been a dedicated Teamster for more than 40 years. Aloise is also the President of Joint Council 7 in San Francisco and Secretary-Treasurer of Local 853 in San Leandro, California.

Longtime Joint Council 7 President Chuck Mack steps down

Taken from JC7 Website - CHUCK MACK BEGAN HIS CAREER as a Teamster in 1962, loading trucks and driving. He spent the next 47 years working to ensure that Teamster drivers—in Local 70, in the western region and across the nation— maintained excellent benefits and meaningful work. He will step down at the end of May from all of his Teamster positions to become the union co-chair of the Western Conference of Teamsters Pension Trust.

Sit down with Chuck and he can tell you stories about struggles with employers, politics and the way the industry has changed. But what gets him most charged up is his devotion to the membership. “It’s always been about the members—that’s been what’s made the job fun,” he says.

Graniterock: What if Bruce threw a party and nobody came?

On April 24, 2009, Local 853 Secretary-Treasurer Rome Aloise led pickets from around the Bay Area as they converged on Graniterock’s Redwood City facility to greet “area dignitaries and customers” attending CEO Bruce Woolpert’s Customer Open House. One problem . . . by the time the pickets left, no customers or dignitaries had been seen entering the “extravaganza.” The message on the picket line was clear; Bruce Woolpert was GUILTY of numerous unfair labor practices concerning his withdrawal of recognition of Local 287 in the South Bay.
